Wedges
Master your wedges and you will improve your chances of making a good score. These wedges are used mostly for short distances and are quite versatile on uphill and downhill lie and especially for getting out from bunkers. The clubface of these irons have a steep angle which averages about 60 degrees relative to the ground and their shafts are shorter than the short irons. These irons will give the average player a distance of up to 90 yards. Remember the closer you are to the green the better your chances of getting closer to the pin. Are you ready for the tour? Let’s master the short irons. |

Drawing wedges from an uphill lie |
In this shot my ball is sitting down in a light rough, on an uphill lie, and I’m 95 yards from the green. I have an elevated green and the pin is placed on the left side of the green. So here I just want to draw the ball and it on the right portion of the green. I will use my 56 degree wedge which is one more club than I would normally use for this distance. This is because of the uphill lie and the elevated green. I will make a compact and controlled swing to land the ball softly on the green. |
