SHOT DESCRIPTION

Key Elements

Putting set up

Objective

Reason

Consideration

To have the proper set up on the green.

The Putter face should point in the direction of the intended starting line of the putt. The feet, knees, hips, forearms, and shoulders should all be set parallel to this line. The left eye should be positioned over the ball with upper part of your back and neck nearly parallel to the ground. The golf ball should be placed slightly forward in your stance.

Golfers must have the proper set putting set up.

Shoulders

Objective

Reason

Consideration

The shoulders should turn back and through during the swing and should be set parallel to the ball target line during the set up.

The shoulders should turn back and through during the swing and should be set parallel to the ball target line during the set up. In the back swing the left shoulder should turn approximately 90 degrees with the left shoulder turning back over your right foot. In the follow through the shoulders will turn through with the right shoulder closer to the target than your left shoulder. The shoulders should turn on an angle perpendicular to your spine.

Putts are hit with the shoulders and no lower body motion.

Pendulum

Objective

Reason

Consideration

The putting stroke should have a pendulum like motion were the putter swings the same distance back and through.

Also the putter should maintain a constant speed during the stroke.

To achieve a pendulum like putting stroke you want to focus on using your arms and shoulders during the stroke and not your wrist.

» What you will achieve is that, when you swivel your head, you will be looking exactly in the same line where your putter in aiming. When you move your neck, you seethe hole from a different perspective, the wrong one.

» A very common mistake is to be wrongly aligned to the right for example, which will make you instantly move your neck to see the hole. If in this situation you would only swivel your head, you would not be looking straight at the hole.
