SHOT DESCRIPTION

Key Elements

Downswing plane angle

Objective

Reason

Consideration

The golf club should swing down at the same angle at which the club was in the set up.

A downswing too steep or vertical will increase the odds of you hitting a shank.

Often times golfers will have a tendency to swing the golf club down on to vertical of a swing angle. Leading to a pulled shot or a slice. Ideally the golf club should return at the exact angle at which it started at impact.

Set up

Objective

Reason

Consideration

The set is one of the most important fundamentals in the swing.

The feet should be about shoulder width apart with the weight positioned on the balls of the feet. The knees should have a slight flex with the hips tilted slightly. Your belt buckle should point toward the golf ball. Your lower back should be straight with your rear end sticking out slightly. The hands should hang naturally under your chin. The feet, knees, hips, and shoulders should all be set parallel to the ball target line with the club face pointing directly at your intended target.

How To

1

» Generally, the shank is caused by two main reasons: 1) You are standing too close to the ball. 2) You are swinging too much from the outside in a steep angle into impact.

» When you swing too much from the outside, it is very easy to hit the ball in the hosel of the club.

» So, a good drill you can do to correct this is to place a shoebox or any kind of box just outside the clubface toe (so that the clubface is almost touching the box). Also, when you set up to the ball; make sure you are the proper distance away from the ball, where your hands are directly underneath your chin.

» Swing back and when you come down, make sure you are swinging down on the correct plane. If you were to come down from the outside, you would find the box in your way.
