Playing golf is a great way to relax but before heading out for the golf course, you must not forget to carry the right equipments with you. It requires a range of tools and devices to strike the golf ball the right way, to give your best stroke and to make playing golf an enjoyable experience.
I will start with the characteristics of the golf ball itself that must have a minimum diameter of 42.67 mm and a maximum weight of 45.93 g. You must have seen the dimples on the surface of the golf ball, well these are meant for bettering its aerodynamics including considerations like spin, feel, distance and trajectory.
As opposed to feather and leather golf balls of old days the modern ones are made with various layers of artificial materials like Surlyn and Balata. Surlyn balls are harder and travel greater lengths while the soft Balata balls are high on spin, feel and braking potential. You can classify the golf balls according to their number of layers and the price generally increases with the number of layers.
As a golf player, you next require a number of different clubs that can be as many as fourteen and made with various materials like wood, iron and putters. The iron wedge clubs help you to play shorter shots from the roughs while the wooden ones are appropriate to hit your ball a long way from the fairway or tee.
The characteristics of the two types of clubs are combined in the “hybrid” special wood clubs, which you can use if you face problems hitting the ball from the hazards and roughs. The putter clubs that have minimal loft are best for playing a shot from the green and bunkers.
The golf shafts connect the grip with the club head and have a round tapering shape, the thickness greater at the grip than towards the club end. The golf shafts that you get today are made mostly with strong and light materials like graphite or tempered steel. Other materials like hickory wood, aluminum and titanium have been tried earlier.
Another most important golf equipment that I can think of is the tee. This wooden or plastic nail-like structure is inserted into the ground and used to rest the ball on it. You should choose the length of the tee to match with that of the club. It comes in variations such as “step tee” and “brush tee”. The dents made on the green by the hitting of the ball are repaired by a pitchfork.
You require a golf bag to carry the clubs with you. These nylon or leather bags come with various pockets to put the smaller equipments into them. Golf carts are small trolleys to carry a bag around the course. You can improve your grip by wearing golf gloves and a pair of special golf shoes fitted with exchangeable spikes. I think carrying towels for wiping and cleaning purposes is a good idea too.
